St. Nicholas, best known as the patron saint of children, was born in Patara around 300 AD and served as bishop of Myra until his death. Stories of his miracles and generosity have inspired the legend of Santa Claus in the Western world.
Myra Ancient City
Myra is home to some of the most impressive Lycian rock-cut tombs and a vast Roman theater. These tombs, carved into the cliffs, mimic ancient domestic architecture. Though the carvings have eroded over time, the site’s dramatic appearance is unforgettable.
Kekova Island
Kekova, meaning “home of the sun,” is a picturesque region of islands, bays, and ancient ruins. Along the northern shore, parts of ancient houses are submerged, while others remain scattered along the coast. Theimussa, near modern-day Demre, features a fascinating Lycian necropolis with chest-shaped tombs.
